Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. Don't hesitate to reach out to our team with anything questions or concerns you may have.

  • Which geographical regions does Trashly support?

We are launching in the United States, where we have recommendations that are common for every state. We have more precise recommendations for these metropolitan areas: San Francisco and to a lesser extent, the entire state of California, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.

  • Are we planning to expand outside the US?

Yes! We want to support all 50 states and then bring trashly to a wider global audience.

  • Do we collect any personal data?

No. We don't collect any personal data whatsoever. As you may notice, trashly doesn't have a registration or a login feature, so your personal data is not being collected.

  • Why do we ask for location permission?

Our recommendation engine has region-specific responses for recycing. With your location we can use the onboard GPS sensor to automatically recognize your region and provide you with more detailed and relevant recycling recommendations.

  • How many items are currently recognizable?

The Computer Vision model we are using is capable of recognizing more than 6,000 unique items. However, please note that we group some items and recommendations together, so the actual search engine can remain small - but still deliver big results.

  • What is the technology used for image recognition?

We use Google's TensorFlow Lite technology on-device, to perform image recognition.
